How can Naturopathy help you

Two of the main strengths of Naturopathy is that we recognise the body as a whole, not just a collection of isolated systems that aren’t talking to each other.  A perfect example would be someone suffering from acne: a Western approach might include a dermatologist, who specialises only in treating the skin. A Naturopath would also explore the links to other body systems that could be contributing to spots such as the gastrointestinal system and detoxification pathways, stress and the nervous system, diet and lifestyle, sex hormones and so on.

The other key difference is that Naturopaths seek to treat the cause, not just suppress the symptoms. So, in the case of someone with acne, they might be told to take the oral contraceptive pill – this will usually clear up the symptoms, but without addressing the root cause the spots will come straight back as soon as they stop the medication. And while I completely understand the desire to get things under control as quickly as possible (impatient Scorpio over here), not only will this approach fail to control acne in the long-run, but the driving factors will likely cause issues elsewhere in the body if they’re not addressed; if spots are being caused by a poor diet and blood glucose dysregulation now, left unaddressed later on this could lead to insulin resistance and diabetes, weight gain, fatty liver and atherosclerosis.
